About Pet Almanac

Pet Almanac is an independent pet care publication for keepers in the United States. Our tagline, The Pet Care Handbook, describes the goal: clear, accurate guidance that a keeper can follow on the day they bring an animal home and keep returning to as questions come up.

Who we are

Pet Almanac is run by the Pet Almanac editorial team, a group of writers and editors. Every guide on the site is published under that shared byline and goes through the same research, fact-checking and editing steps.

What we cover

Right now the site focuses on two areas:

  • Freshwater fish: betta fish, goldfish, aquarium setup, and water problems.
  • Reptiles: leopard geckos and bearded dragons.

We plan to expand into small pets, birds, cats, and dogs. You will find species care guides, step-by-step setup guides, how-to guides for common problems such as algae, water chemistry, and cycling, and reference tables. Calculators and some product recommendations will follow.

How our guides are made

We start with the questions keepers ask most. We then research reliable references, fact-check every number against them, and edit before publishing. Each guide carries a visible published or updated date. The full process is on our How We Review page, and the standards we hold ourselves to are in our Editorial Policy.

What we do not do

  • We do not give veterinary advice. We do not diagnose, recommend treatments, or suggest medications. If your animal is sick or injured, contact a qualified veterinarian.
  • We do not sell placement in our editorial content. Companies cannot pay to be featured, recommended, or ranked higher.
  • We do not give products scores, ratings, or stars. When we discuss products, we explain how they fit an animal’s care requirements and let you decide.

How we make money

Pet Almanac is reader-supported through display advertising and affiliate links. If you buy through some links on the site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never decide what we recommend. Read the details on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
